Properties near the ruined Saxon cathedral and along the B1110 frequently feature original flint rubble construction with aged lead soakers and step flashings bedded into lime mortar joints — once those joints crack, water finds its way in quickly. Dormer windows on converted farm buildings and older cottages along Station Road are another common source of slow leaks caused by failed lead aprons.
